Bedouin culture makes the Sinai what it is. There are eight Bedouin tribes in South Sinai today. The tribe in St Katherine is El Jebeleya: The Mountain People. It is a unique tribe, descended in part from European soldiers who came to protect the Monastery of St Katherine. Nobody knows our history better than Sheikh Ahmed. With fluent English and a deep knowledge of Bedouin culture, he’s one of the Sinai’s most respected, influential Sheikhs. We run tours where you can walk with him, ask questions and learn about our history and culture. Listening to his stories will enrich anybody’s knowledge of the Sinai’s Bedouin heritage.
