The Monastery of St Katherine was built in the 6th century and is probably the world’s oldest continuously operating monastery. Sinai Desert Fox has an ancient link with the monastery, with many of our guides being from the Jebeleya tribe. The Jebeleya have been working with the monks for over 1500 years. It’s open daily 9am-11am, except Fridays and Sundays. Desert Fox Camp is the closest place to stay in town, within easy walking distance. It’s common to visit at the end of the Mount Sinai trek: sleep on top, see the monastery in the morning.
